Prince William and Kate Middleton will one day be king and queen; everyone understands that. So the expectations, which are already heavy for the royal family in general, are much worse for the two of them, and especially William. But Kate, who married into the family, is also expected to uphold standards that sometimes feel very hard to live by. Including when it comes to her relationships.

This has reportedly been the case for a while, with the Daily Mail reporting that Kate and Eugenie were never close, even though they attended the same school and have a lot of the same interests. Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams says Kate does not “have that much in common” with Beatrice and Eugenie

“Eugenie, particularly, seems to be closer to Harry’ than the princess’s husband William,” he added. But is that the reason Kate and Eugenie don’t get along? Reportedly no. The two attended Marlborough College, but their experiences were very different. Kate stayed out of scandals. Eugenie was once caught “frolicking naked in the ground” after a night of drinking.

The princess reportedly had quite a reputation at one point, from “pole-dancing” at a strip club to questionable romances. Very different from Middleton’s prim and proper persona. And according to experts, it’s one of the reasons why the two never found anything in common, despite finding themselves part of the same family. Eugenie’s party ways reportedly stopped when she met her current husband, but she and Kate still never developed a close bond.

And that doesn’t seem likely to change these days as the British royal family attempts as much separation as it possibly can from Andrew and Fergie, after the former prince was arrested for suspicion of misconduct in public office and both were mentioned in the Epstein files. Their daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, have not been accused of any crime, but just their association with their parents seems to be enough for the royal family to take a step back.

Plus, some reports indicate that William might still be holding a grudge against his uncle. Richard Kay spoke with the Mail Online in 2024 and shared about the relationship between uncle and nephew: “Differences between monarch and heir do remain, especially when it comes to the Prince Andrew scandal,” Kay said. “William has long held a grudge against Andrew for being unwelcoming when he first introduced the then Kate Middleton to the royal family and feels that his father has been too soft on him.”

Biographer for the Yorks, Andrew Lownie, had told People that Andrew “wasn’t nice when Kate came into the family. He thought she wasn’t posh enough.” And others agreed.

“The feud between Prince William and Prince Andrew started primarily due to Andrew’s jealousy and resulting disparaging remarks regarding Kate Middleton,” British royals expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital. “Prince William was infuriated,” she added, “Being fiercely protective, he instituted a zero-tolerance policy toward any wayward behavior or scandals involving Prince Andrew.”

Doesn’t look like things will change anytime soon. For Andrew or his daughters.
